The FA in Uganda has launched an investigation into coach Mike Mutebi’s recent claims that league titles won in the East African country’s Premier League in the last 20 years were fixed.
Mutebi took the world of football by storm with his shocking allegations that endemic corruption and fixing reigns supreme in the championship there.
Known to be a frank-talker, Mike’s remarks inevitably had tongues wagging and of more worrying is, the Kampala City Capital Authority (KCCA) FC coach’s insistence that he wouldn’t mind to have his arm hacked off if his assertions were proven untrue.
The controversial but respected tactician first made the remarks in 2016 when he said only the league gong he won for KCCA in the 2015/16 season was genuine.
The comments back then did not spark a furor until he repeated the words again at a recent sending-off of a local football executive in the East African nation’s capital.
“All the titles that have been won in the last twenty years have been fixed. It’s not only KCCA but Villa, Express, you know URA.”
“I have known that, but because some of you who are not candid and frank, you know these things and you fear,” the outspoken erstwhile Villa and Express technical man said this week, adding that budgets were even drafted to fund these schemes.
“I am honest. Yes, there used to be a budget for those years not only at KCCA and these were found out at the continent where they were not aided.”
However, the Ugandan FA announced yesterday that a process was on to investigate the claims.
In a barely three paragraph communiqué, FUFA said on its website: “FUFA has observed that there have been statements made in the media attributed to KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi about predetermination of football results in the top flight League.”
It continued: “The matter at hand will be brought before the competent statutory bodies of FUFA and will be managed to conclusion.”
“As FUFA, we reiterate our position that sporting results must be determined in line with the FIFA’s 17 Laws of the Game.
It is Our Game, It is Our Country.”
Mike’s allegations come as a huge blow at a time Ugandan football has begun scaling heights in the East African region.
