Unbeaten Tunisia Qualify for The World Cup for The First Time Since 2006

Tunisia booked the final spot to the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia after a goalless draw with North African rivals Libya.

The ruthless Eagles of Carthage attacked relentlessly throughout the game but Libya’s goalkeeper Nashnush put on a man-of-the-match performance to keep his side in the game. He wasn’t affected by the pressure like most other Libyan players and managed to keep out Youssef Msakani, Anice Badri and Ghilani Chaalani despite the deafening chants from the home fans.

Group opponents DR Congo were a close second in Group A but fell a point short despite a last-minute goal for a 3-1 victory over Guinea and will have to wait for another 4 years to end their 43-year absence.

Two stoppage-time goals from Jonathan Bolongi and Neeskens Kebano and an own goal from Ousmane Sidibe were not enough to lift DR Congo above Tunisia who was struggling to find the net. They were counting on Tunisia losing to Libya if they were to pull a final day upset but the Eagles of Carthage fought off a determined Libya side to keep their top spot.

Tunisia who is the first African side to win a World Cup match will be celebrating their record fifth appearance at the biggest football showdown on earth. The result sees them join the elite company of Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt and Senegal as Africa’s representatives at the 2018 World Cup in Russia Next Summer.
