Fennec Foxes midfielder Belal Bin Hamouda has been killed in a car accident on Thursday night, the Algerian Football Federation has announced.
The USM Alger attacking midfielder died in an accident in Hajout, while he was on his way back home after playing a friendly match against Democratic Republic of Congo in which he scored the third goal.
“The administration of USM Alger extends its sincere condolences to the Bin Hamouda family following the death of Al Ittihad player Bilal Bin Hamouda,” the club confirmed on Friday.
“ We ask God Almighty to bless the deceased with his mercy, place him in paradise and grant his family patience and solace.”
The sad news of Hamouda’s demis sparked some reaction from fellow Algeria Ligue 1 players, clubs and Confederation of African Football also joined in mourning the player.
“The management of the JSK, very saddened by the tragic death of Belal Bin Hamouda, presents its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased as well as to the entire family of the USMA, assuring them of its deep compassion.May the Almighty and Merciful God grant the deceased his holy mercy and welcome him to his vast paradise. To God we belong and to him we return,” JS Kabylie wrote on their Instagram page.
CR Belouizdad wrote on Facebook:“With great sadness and sorrow, the Belouizdad youth administration received the news of the death of the player of the Union of the Capital and the national team, Bilal bin Hamouda, who passed away following a tragic traffic accident.”
Hamouda was on Saturday laid to rest at Qaraa Cemetery, in a ceremony attended by family members‚ government dignitaries and other VIPs‚ and his USM Alger teammates‚ technical staff and officials.
Fans from different clubs joined those of USM Alger supporters who carried Hamouda’s coffin and exploded in songs at the gravesite before he was put to his final resting place.
