Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto has resigned from his position as head coach of Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia and will be making a return to Portuguese football.
Vaz Pinto resigns from his post just a few days after guiding the glamour club to FKF Betway Cup glory and a ticket to continental football, the coveted CAF Confederations Cup.
Gor Mahia have won just 12 of their 23 matches played this Kenyan Premier League season and are sitting precariously in 4th position, 11 points adrift table leaders Tusker FC.
The 46-year-old had hinted he would part ways with Gor Mahia after the 2-1 defeat to Tusker FC on Thursday, suggesting he was being sabotaged at the club.
It is believed Vaz Pinto could take on the managerial role at Portuguese second tier side, CD Nacional.
Ambroise Rachier, the Gor Mahia chairman, sounded surprised when contacted by reporters and said he would rather not be drawn into making a comment.
Having taken the reins at K’Ogalo at the beginning of this year, Vaz Pinto worked miracles as he guided an motivated Nairobi-based club to an unprecedented Betway Cup crown.
He was previously in-charge of Ghana’s Accra Hearts of Oak and come in to replace Brazilian tactician Roberto Oliveira who parted ways with Gor Mahia due to his low qualifications.
Vaz Pinto has also been in-charge of Ethiopian Premier League giants St George and Angolan club Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo.
He also had a short stint at FC Famalicao Under-23 team in Portugal from September 2019 to June 2020.
