Veteran Cameroon Goalkeeper Kameni Joins Santa Coloma After Arta Solar Exit

Veteran Cameroon goalkeeper Idrissa Kameni has joined Andorra top-flight side Santa Coloma on a one-year deal.

The 38-year-old spent one season with Djiboutian side Arta Solar 7 after coming of retirement to join his former Cameroon national team teammate Alex Song.

The experienced custodian guided the club to Djiboutian Premier League title and has left at a crucial time when Alta Solar are preparing to face Sudan’s Al Merriekh at the first round of the Caf Champions League.

Kameni started his professional career in France, joining Le Havre but could not break into the first team, making only two league appearances for the side throughout his four-year stay.

In an attempt to enjoy regular playing time, the goalkeeper made a switch to Saint-Etienne on loan before moving to Espanyol where he spent seven years.

He switched to Malaga in early 2012 and went on to make 113 appearances for the club before departing the side for Fenerbahce after a five-year stay.

The highly-rated goalkeeper played all three knock-out matches to help Cameroon win Olympic football gold at the 2000 Games in Sydney.

Kameni also played a key role as the Indomitable Lions finished runners up at the 2003 Fifa Confederations Cup in France.

He has 74 caps for his country and was part of the Cameroon squad at the 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
