Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Porto is set to lose striker Vincent Aboubakar to French Ligue 1 outfit St-Etienne.
According to a Ducor Sports source close to the player, the Saints have reignited their interest in the Cameroonian international, and the proposed move could happen in the next few days.
“The interest is still there from St-Etienne and could happen within the next few days, “ the source told Ducor Sports.
Aboubakar was close to joining the Saints in January but the move failed to materialize due to the striker’s demands as well as the club’s asking price.
However, with rumours that Porto coach Sergio Conceicao has indicated that the player in not under his future plans, Aboubakar may consider jumping ship.
So far, neither Porto nor St-Etienne have commented on the possibility of signing or losing players, the source confirmed there have been talks behind the scenes.
“For now, everything is still being spoken behind the scenes but if all goes well, Aboubakar will join St-Etienne,” concluded the source.
Aboubakar has been with Porto since 2014 following his arrival from Lorient and extended his stay for a further four years until 2021.
In the last two seasons, the 28-year-old has scored 37 goals in 89 appearances for the club but he appears not to be enjoying his time under the stewardship of Canceicao.
The hero of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Aboubakar boasts of 20 goals in 63 appearances with the Cameroon Indomitable Lions.
