Vipers Part Ways With Robertinho

Uganda Premier League outfit Vipers Sports Club have parted ways with coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves do Carmo a.k.a Robertinho.

The decision to relieve the coach of his duties has come as a surprise as the club is positioned fourth in the UPL log.

Vipers come from a 1-0 loss against  Busoga United FC in the recent match, which was days before the Christmas break.

Robertinho will be remembered for steering Vipers to the group stages of the  2022/2023 CAF Champions League after eliminating favorites TP Mazembe on penalties.

The 62-year-old gaffer was unveiled as Vipers coach in August last year together with his assistant Marcelo Cardoso on a three-year contract.

“Vipers Sports Club announces that Mr. Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho has left his role as the head coach with immediate effect,” a statement posted on the club website reads.

“The club would like to thank Robertinho for his tireless efforts as the head coach during his time at the club and wish him success in the future.

“The club shall in the shortest time possible come out with a statement on the technical bench leadership following the coach’s departure.”

Robertinho was previously in-charge of Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia FC, a position he left after it was discovered that he didn’t have CAF-certified papers.

The former Brazil international also had a stint in Rwanda with Rayon Sports where he resigned in October 2019 after the club failed to agree with his agent on salary.

He has also coached in Tunisia where he was in charge of Stade Tunisien and in Angola where he spent two seasons at  Atlético Sport Aviação.
