Vita Deny Interest In Signing Gabonese Keeper Didier Ovono

DR Congo giants AS Vita have denied reports that they are interested in the signing of Gabon’s first-choice goalkeeper Didier Ovono.

DR Congo giants AS Vita have denied reports that they are interested in the signing of Gabon’s first-choice goalkeeper Didier Ovono.

The Black Dolphins were the subject of speculations in the Congolese press this week, which suggested they were looking to bring in the experienced shot-stopper.

The 36-year-old is currently not attached to any team, having left French Ligue 2 outfit Paris FC, a club that he cut ties with in August citing lack of playing minutes, with reports suggesting he had visited Kinshasa with a view of joining the club.

However, high ranking officials at AS Vita have flatly denied any links to the player describing the rumours as “unfounded”.

“Our club is not planning on recruiting a goalkeeper at the moment. We are quietly preparing for the African Champions League and other Vodacom League 1 championship matches with the current goalkeeping duo of Nelson Lukong and Mudekereza,” an alleged Congolese source tells a major football online website.

Ovono becomes the third international goal-minder to be linked to the Black Dolphins, following Equatorial Guineas Felipe Ovono, as well as Felix Annan, who is the current skipper of Ghanaian side, Asante Kotoko.
