Wanyama: ‘Thierry Henry Convinced Me To Join Montreal Impact’

New Montreal Impact midfielder Victor Wanyama has revealed that a phone call from manager Thierry Henry convinced him to join the club.

New Montreal Impact midfielder Victor Wanyama has revealed that a phone call from manager Thierry Henry convinced him to join the club.

The 28-year-old joined the Major Soccer League outfit as a Designated Player, following a free transfer with English club Tottenham Hotspur FC.

The Kenyan international signed a three-year contract with the club and is expected to turn for the Canadian outfit upon receiving his international transfer certificate and passing his medical.

Wanyama admits that it could have been so much different had he not spoken to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who is now his manager at Impact.

“When I spoke to Thierry and he told me he wanted me to join him in Montreal, I didn’t have to think twice,” Wanyama told Impact portal.

“He has always been a player that I’ve admired, and I am really happy to get the opportunity to work with him and to play a part that can ensure that the Montreal Impact have an improved season and hopefully reach the ultimate stages of the competitions in which we compete.”

Wanyama made 97 appearances for Spurs during his three-and-a-half year stay at the club having been signed by former coach Mauricio Pochettino from Southampton.

However, this season he has played only 24 minutes in this Premier League and has made just four appearances for Spurs in all competitions.
