Warriors Depart To Cameroon For CHAN Finals

The team is travelling to the central African nation through Addis Ababa and is expected in Cameroon on Thursday morning.

The biannual football tournament participated for by only players plying their trade in their respective domestic leagues, will take place from 16 January to 7 February 2021.

Zimbabwe players conducted their first training session in ten days following a Covid-19 outbreak in which nine members of the team tested positive for the deadly virus.

Retests were taken yesterday and only one of the nine players, who had tested positive two weeks ago, returned a positive response result last Friday.

Zimbabwe Football Association has since revealed that the player who tested positive is Tawanda Nyamandwe and Thomas Chideu has since taken his place.

“We have a clean bill of health. The players who complained of knocks have since recovered. The likes of (Leeroy) Mavhunga, (Muduwa) Peter, Mukamba (Denver) and Nadolo (King) picked up knocks last year and the doctors were closely monitoring the situation,” said Zimbabwe national teams general manager, Wellington Mpandare as per The Herald.

“We are happy to announce that they have all since recovered from the injuries and we hope that coach Loga will have a full complement of the squad with everyone fit by the time we start the campaign.

“Players have been tested for Covid-19 today (yesterday) and results are expected later in the day. We will be leaving for Cameroon via Ethiopia on Wednesday (today) afternoon.

“We have trained as a team since Saturday last week and we will be concluding our local training sessions before we leave.”

Zimbabwe are in Group A with hosts Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mali. They are scheduled to face the Indomitable Lions in the tournament opener on 16 January.
