The future of Zimbabwe international midfielder Marvelous Nakamba at Aston Villa is in doubt following reports that Trabzonspor are looking to bring him to Turkish Super Lig.
Nakamba has spent the last nine months at Villa Park after arriving from Belgium’s Club Brugge in a £11m deal.
The 25-year-old made 21 appearances for Aston Villa in the current EPL season before it was suspended, and Birmingham Mail reports that Trabzonspor wanted Nakamba to replace former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
“Marvelous Nakamba has been linked with a shock exit from Aston Villa. The youngster is a target for Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor. He is the third Villa player to be linked with a move to Turkey by the Press there, with Mbwana Samatta (Galatasaray) and Trezeguet (Besiktas) said to be interesting clubs over there,” Birmingham Mail said.
Nakamba has plenty of clubs interested. In the recent past, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have been mentioned as some keen admirers.
The imminent departure of Nakamba will be a big blow to Dean Smith who benefited from his versatility deploying him as a holding midfielder this season.
Nakamba started his career in his homeland of Zimbabwe before getting his first taste of European football with Nancy in France.
He later moved to Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands and Club Brugge in Belgium, playing Champions League football with the latter.
Nakamba represented Zimbabwe at the 2019 African Cup of Nations, but only featured in their opening-match defeat to Egypt as injury ruled him out of the remainder of their unsuccessful group stage campaign.
