Wazito Turns to American Magic, Appoint Medo As New Coach

Kenyan Premier League side Wazito FC have appointed American tactician Melis Medo as the head of the technical bench.

Kenyan Premier League side Wazito FC have appointed American tactician Melis Medo as the head of the technical bench.

Medo will take over from Francis Ambani, who was shown the door after a series of unsatisfactory results.

The 49-year-old American, who boasts a vast experience in African football, will be the fourth tactician to guide the Ricardo Badoer’ owned outfit in the last two seasons.

He takes over a side that has registered only one win, two losses and three draws in their last six Kenyan Premier League matches.

Sources at the club confirmed to Ducor Sports that Medo has been appointed after a “stiff vetting process”, beating Englishman Dylan Kerr and Ghanaian Charles Kwablan Akonnor.

Wazito chief executive officer Denis Gicheru said Medo was the right man to take the club forward.

“After careful consideration, we settled on Melis Medo. He is a quality coach and having coached Kenyan Premier League teams before he understands Kenyan football well and we have full confidence in him,” Gicheru said.

Medo has previously coached Nakumatt FC in Kenya in 2018 before moving to Sofapaka FC where he stayed for only seven games.

He then made a switch back to Nakumatt which was then rebranded to Mt. Kenya United where he worked until the end of 2018-2019 season.
