Al Ahly Egypt’s coach Martin Lasarte has offered apologies to fans after his club’s 5-0 battering away in South Africa.
It was a lesson learnt but never to be forgotten after the record Total CAF Champions League holders endured a savaging at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
Starting with Themba Zwane unlocking the post after fourteen minutes, 34-year-old Wayne Arendse doubled the advantage in the 24th minute before Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento heaped further woes in the 47th minute via the spot-kick.
Sirino and Mahlambi later each netted to complete up the rout as South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns ran rampant.
A tough tie was anticipated in the lead up to the showdown but the manner of Ahly’s annihilation in the first-leg last Saturday inevitably set tongue-wagging across the continent.
Realising the damage more so to Red Devils’ traveling fans, Lasarte has offered his apologies.
“We have certainly played a bad game, and we need to work in the upcoming period,” Lasarte said in his post-match press conference.

“We are embarrassed and apologize to you. There is nothing else to be said. We will talk less and work more from now on.”
