Were Happy to be Back Home, Eyes AFCON Slot

AFC Leopards winger Paul Were says he’s happy to be back ‘home’ after making his second debut for the Kenyan side on Thursday.

AFC Leopards winger Paul Were says he’s happy to be back ‘home’ after making his second debut for the Kenyan side on Thursday during a league match against Posta Rangers at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.

The Harambee Stars speedster recently re-joined Leopards from Greek side Trikala on a short-term deal until the end of the current Kenyan Premier League campaign.

On Thursday, he marked his second debut with an assist in the 3-1 win over struggling Posta Rangers a result that moved Leopards to 10th in the Kenyan Premier League.

Speaking after the match, Were revealed that he feels at home once again after returning to the club he left five years ago.

“It feels good. I consider Leopards my home and to be back here is amazing. I am just happy to be here I want to help the team in the best way I can, this squad consists of very talented players and I am glad to be back,” he said.

Asked what prompted him to make a comeback to the Kenyan Premier League, the left-footed forward asserted that the desire to be close to his family and an opportunity to fight for a place in the African Cup of Nations squad informed the decision.

“First it was because of my family. I wanted to be close to them. Secondly, it’s because of AFCON, I knew I would play more here and because I want to get a chance to play in the African Cup of Nations, I thought it would be good to return and play actively week in week out, “he added.
