Gor Mahia goalkeeper David Mapigano has reportedly had talks with the club’s management in a bid to have his contract terminated after growing frustrated by non-payment of salary.
Many Kenyan Premier League clubs are experiencing tough financial times and the players are feeling the heat after going months without pay. It is the same situation K’Ogalo are going through and have not paid their players for the last seven months.
It is for the aforementioned reason that the former Singida United custodian has threatened to leave the 18-time league champions.
The 22-year-old custodian was heavily linked with a move to Yanga in the Tanzanian Premier League but reports revealed that the parties involved could not reach a plausible agreement.
“Yes am planning for a new challenge at a different place, this is all due to non-payment of salaries,” said Mapigano while speaking to Tanzanian Journalist Jacki Anangisye.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “I have received offers from different clubs and it is just a matter of time before I reveal my next move as clubs in Tanzania, Kenya, and Africa as a whole are waiting for my signature.” [/perfectpullquote]
Mapigano joined Gor in June 2018 on a three-year contract after first-choice goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch spent most of the previous season on the treatment table after picking up a shoulder injury.
Gor Mahia were declared Kenyan Premier League champions after the Football Kenya Federation declared the season over. They will represent Kenya in the African Champions League next season.
