World Cup 2022: Draw Is Done For The African Qualifiers

Forty African countries, including 14 sides who progressed from the first round, were allocated 10 groups of four teams each.

Africa has been allocated five spots in the finals, which will be played in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December.

There will be a third round of qualifying for the African sides where the winners of the ten group will meet both home and away and the winner will qualify for Qatar 2022.

Former Captain of the French men’s national football team Marcel Desailly and coach of Côte d’Ivoire’s women’s national football team, Clementine Toure were on stage in Egypt to help with the African draw.

Ivory Coast, who failed to qualify in the last edition of the global spectacle, were drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mozambique and Malawi.

Other standout fixtures include South Africa v Zimbabwe and Egypt v Gabon, the last of which will see elite Premier League forwards Mohamad Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headlining their sides.

The second round is scheduled to begin in October 2020 continuing until October 2021.

  • Group G: Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia

  • Group I: Morocco, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sudan
  • Group J: DR Congo, Benin, Madagascar, Tanzania
