Wydad Casablanca Confirm Departure Of Coach Regragui

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have confirmed parting ways with their coach Walid Regragui eleven months after hiring him.

The France-born gaffer had  announced his resignation three weeks ago but the African Champions had denied his departure from the club.

Regragui was appointed in September last year replacing Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti who was let go after a poor show in the domestic leage.

“He has got his reasons, but I am not at liberty to share them publicly. But he has our blessings. The coach came to see the club president several days ago and offered his resignation,” a source at the club confirmed to Ducor Sports.

In his resignation letter the former Atlas Lions star said; “I can’t do better with the team in the future. The players, the management, and the fans have put in great confidence and have given me the opportunity to win two significant titles.

“I owe it to all the team members for the great support I have received during my stay here,” he added.

The 46-year-old, Regragui played 45 times for Morocco and began his coaching career as assistant to then national team coach Rachid Taoussi.

He spent five years in charge of FUS Rabat, winning the championship in 2015-16. He took over Qatari club Al Duhail in 2020.
