Wydad Casablanca coach Zoran Manojlovic has heaped praise on his charges after Saturday’s 4-1 win over Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.

Ayoub El Kaabi’s hat-trick stole the show from Wilson Pinto Gaspar own goal that inspired the Moroccan giants to their first CAF Champions League group C win.

In an interview, Manojlovic, who took charge of Wydad in July 2019 was as full of praise for his players.

“I commend my players, staff and the supporters who are always behind us. Petro started well, but we controlled the game. They (Petro) are a good team that is why they reacted and equalized. We believed in ourselves and kept pushing forward until we scored three more goals,” Manajlovic told CafOnline.

During his first stint in African soil, Manojolvic coached Primeiro de Agosto of Angola, where he was unfortunate to be knocked out in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League by Esperance de Tunis.

Wydad Casablanca are now placed second behind Mamelodi Sundowns, with a three-point buffer ahead of USM Alger, while Petro are bottom of the log with just one point.

Both teams will renew hostilities in two weeks’ time with their return clash in Luanda on Saturday 11 January 2020.
