Zambia FA Releases Final List Of Contestants

Zambia football legend Kalusha Bwalya has been eliminated from the race of the nation’s FA presidential seat.

Zambia football legend Kalusha Bwalya has been eliminated from the race of the nation’s FA presidential seat.

The two-term former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) boss, unarguably among the lead candidates, failed the integrity test and has until Monday to appeal the nullification of his nomination.

Bwalya’s exclusion leaves two more persons in the running for the top job against incumbent Andrew Kamanga, who dislodged him in 2016.

Former FAZ vice-president Emmanuel Munaile and soccer administrator Joseph Nkole are the other presidential candidates for the contest that will be held on March 28, 2020.

“Allow me to say that as an Electoral Committee our work is informed by the statutes of FAZ. These include the constitution, the Electoral Code, the Standing Orders among others,” said Electoral chairperson Ronald Hatoongo.

“Thus the said statutes prescribe the requirements that every aspiring candidate must meet in order to qualify for an elective position or put differently to be able to file a valid nomination.”

Apart from Bwalya, Richard Kazala and Suzyo Zimba were also disqualified following an integrity test where all candidates were subjected to and examined.

“For those whose nomination forms have not met the Constitutional requirements and/or have failed the integrity check, not all is lost, at least for now as they have a window for appealing,” added Hatoongo

Before the presidential election, however, there will be provincial elections that will be conducted from 7th March up to the 21st of March.

The FAZ executive committee will comprise 13 members with 10 of them drawn from each of the provinces.

The March elections present a perfect opportunity for a major change to happen, with calls for a fresh face with innovative ideas to instil the high levels of ethics and morality that should be commonplace when being in supreme control of a local federation.
