Zambia manager Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojević has signed a two-year contract with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), five months after taking charge of the national team.

Zambia manager Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojević has signed a two-year contract with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), five months after taking charge of the national team.

The 50-year-old Serbian has already overseen one friendly match where the Chiopolopolo beat Malawi by a solitary goal at Nkoloma Stadium.

His first competitive games in official charge are likely to be Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers home and away against Botswana in Gaborone.

The contract delay was due to a disagreement between the sports ministry and the federation over the appointment.

Micho was unveiled on February 3rd replacing Sven Vandenbroek who was shown the door after Chipolopolo failed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2012 Nations Cup winners have made a poor start to 2021 qualifying losing 5-0 in Algeria and then 2-1 at home to Zimbabwe, to sit bottom of Group H.

His other targets will be a first-ever World Cup for Zambia and in order for to that to happen, they must win a group that includes Tunisia, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea.

Micho, who is remembered for his achievements as Uganda manager, has also previously coached Rwanda.

He has also been in charge of several clubs in Africa including Ugandan club SC Villa, Ethiopia’s Saint George SC, Egypt’s Zamalek and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates as well as Yanga in Tanzania and Sudanese club Al Hilal.
