Zambia Super League side Lusaka Dynamos have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of experienced Burundian goalkeeper Arthur Arakaza.
The 23-year-old joins the Dynamos on a two-year deal from the Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz ahead of the new 2019 campaign.
Before joining Homeboyz two seasons ago, he was close to signing for Rwandese giants Rayon Sports until negotiations broke down at the last moment.
Arakaza emerged the best player in the 2012 CECAFA Cup and starred in 2013 where he shone against Kenya and challenged Tanzania’s Ivo Mapunda and Uganda’s Benjamin Ochan in the competition.
With the intensity of participating on several fronts domestically, bolstering the goalkeeping position was critical for coach Dan Kabwe, and the experience of Arthur will come in handy.
Arakaza will be expected to challenge for number one spot occupied by an inconsistent Richard Chishimba.
Dynamos becomes Arakaza’s sixth club in his career, having had stints with Flambeau de l’Est, Vital ‘O , LLB Academic, SC Villa and Homeboyz.
Dynamos wrapped up their two weeks pre-season preparations yesterday in South Africa, with Arakaza expected to meet up with his new teammates in a bid to improve on their 6th-place finish in Zambia’s top tier ahead of the 2019 campaign.
