Zambian Club Nkana Send Coach Chabinga On Leave

Nkana FC head coach Manfred Chabinga has been sent on an indefinite leave by the club management after their recent poor form.

Nkana FC head coach Manfred Chabinga has been sent on an indefinite leave by the club management after their recent poor form.

Nkana FC continued stay at Wusakili has been a subject of speculation in recent weeks, after the coach exchanged blows with a fan who had attacked him in a Zambian Super League match a fortnight ago.

The Red Devils have confirmed the development in a press statement posted on their official Facebook page monitored by DucorSports.

The decision comes less than 48 hours after the thirteen-time Zambia Super League champions were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Bantu of Lesotho in an African Champions League match played on Saturday.

“Nkana Football Club Coach Manfred Chabinga has been sent on indefinite leave with immediate effect. Nkana FC management will give more details on the matter to the public in due course,” Nkana said in a statement.

Assistant coach Kaunda Simonda and former Golden Arrows defender Joseph Musonda will take charge of the team in the interim capacity as the management looks for long term replacement as it looks unlikely the gaffer will return to his position at the club.

Nkana have won one league game and then posted two defeats and as many draws from five 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League.

They last engaged in a Super League game on November 22 where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Zanaco.

The Red Devils booked a place in the first round of the continental tournament after they barely won 1-0 in the first leg a week ago. Their Sunday performance against Bantu was far from being impressive.
