Zambian Referee Janny Sikazwe Reinstated

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reinstated Zambia’s famed referee Janny Sikazwe.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reinstated Zambia’s famed referee Janny Sikazwe.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the continental football governing body decided to reinstate Sikwaze after an investigation had shown there was no sufficient evidence to charge him with exhibiting bias in one of last season’s Champions League matches.

“After having thoroughly checked the elements presented regarding the violation by Mr Janny Sikazwe of CAF Regulations, in particular Arts 82, 136, 152 of the CAF Disciplinary Code; the Disciplinary Board decided that there is no sufficient evidence to implicate the involvement of Mr. Janny Sikazwe regarding to allegation of corruption made against him.”

CAF had suspended Sikazwe after Angolan side Primeiro Agusto filed a case accusing the referee of “biased” officiating during their semi-final match against Tunisian side Esperance.

Esperance went on to win the CAF Champions League after beating Egyptian side Al Ahly.

Sikazwe has officiated at four Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) tournaments and the World Club Cup in Japan between Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers of Japan in December 2016.

He also officiated at the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Sikazwe is a teacher of mathematics and physical education and recently got promoted.
