Zambo Anguissa Out For Cameroon In World Cup Play-off Against Algeria

Cameroon will be without its best midfielder for the World Cup qualifying playoff against Algeria after Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa was ruled out on Monday because of an injury.

The midfielder was selected in the Indomitable Lions squad last week but sustained an injury on Saturday during Napoli’s 2-1 win over Udinese in Italian Serie A.

Anguissa will not be fit in time when Cameroon face Algeria on March 25 at the Douala Japoma Stadium and in the return leg tie set for March 29, at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Bilda.

“Injured in the club this weekend, Franck Zambo Anguissa is forfeited for the double confrontation against Algeria on March 25 and 29, 2022 counting for the play-offs of the #FIFAWC2022Q African zone,” reads a statement from the Cameroon FA.

Anguissa, who featured in six of Cameroon’s seven games at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, has played 18 games for Napoli since joining the side on loan from Fulham in August 2021.

He became Fulham player back in 2018 for a fee of €23 million from the French side Olympique de Marseille.

Anguissa moved to Europe at the age of 19 where he was signed by Reims on loan from Cameroonian side Coton Sport.

The midfielder made his international debut for Cameroon national team in a friendly against Tunisia on March 24, 2017.
