South Africa police late Saturday briefly arrested Zimbabwean footballer Walter Musona for allegedly being part of an armed robbery in Polokwane.

South Africa police late Saturday briefly arrested Zimbabwean footballer Walter Musona for allegedly being part of an armed robbery in Polokwane.

Musona, who joined Polokwane City in January, had been detained at Apel Police Station in Lebowakgomo after his car was found loaded with goods believed to have been stolen in an armed robbery.

Following an interrogation session, Musona was released once the authorities concluded that the vehicle was at that time in the hands of his friend, Bothwell Maligasi.

The robbery was committed at an area called Mohlaletse where suspects driving in Musona’s car attacked a hotel and stole various items including television sets and other electronic gadgets.

“The suspects’ car was immediately followed by the police and a car chase ensued until the culprits’ vehicle lost control and knocked a tree alongside the road. But the suspects managed to flee on foot,” a source said.
