There’s no slowing down for Ngezi Platinum after the 2016 Zimbabwe Cup winners reduced Hwange to tatters, hammering them 4-1.
It was a remarkable night for the Ngezi-based table toppers at the Baobab Stadium whose performance was enough to heap further woes on a crumbling Hwange who sits four places away from relegation.
The victory has Platinum strengthening its lead at the top as the team now leads on two points.
Second-placed Platinum initially led on Saturday when they beat Bantu Rovers 1-0 but the standing order changed with Ngezi back on top again following their comprehensive victory on Sunday.
Ngezi has amassed thirty-seven points, winning on eleven occasions, drawing four times in nineteen league matches so far.
Chicken Inn, Dynamos and How Mine are also all contenders for the grand prize.
Only two of the trios have managed to secure the spoils in their respective Sunday games with How Mine held by Tsholotsho, one-all at the Dulibadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge.
Elsewhere, Kariba tied goalless with Yaddah as Harare City scraped past CAPS United 3-2 in a five-goal-thriller duel.
Highlanders crushed Shabanie Mine 2-0 with Dynamos managing to secure points in a 2-1 win over Triangle United. Chicken Inn breezed past Bulawayo City on a slender 1-0 score while Chapungu United beat Black Rhinos 3-0, in a round up of other Sunday games.
In the bottom half of the table are Hwange, CAPS United, Bantu Rovers, and Tsholotsho with the latter gathering the least points.
