Zimbabwe Fires Coach Logarusic 5 Days After 1-0 Loss To Ethiopia

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has dismissed coach Zdravko Logarusic, five days after the national team’s 1-0 defeat to Ethiopia in a 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifier.

The decision was announced after an urgent executive committee meeting summoned by president Felton Kanambo in Harare. The country’s football governing body also announced the disbandment of the entire technical team.

ZIFA is said to be taking seriously the qualification to the 2022 World Cup and after the recent poor results drastic changes have been made.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation at large that it has amicably parted ways with senior men’s team coach Zdravko Logarusic. The decision was arrived at upon consideration by the full Executive Committee of all the various relevant circumstances pertaining to the coach’s contract,” the association said.

“The appointment of the interim technical team shall be announced in due course as the Executive Committee has already set in motion the process.”

Logarusic has been dismissed after having won only one game in the 14 matches he has presided over in the Warriors dugout.

The Croatian gaffer was handed the job in January 2020 replacing Sunday Chidzambwa who left the hot seat after the nation’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Joey Antipas had been placed in-charge on interim basis and had to step down from the role and assist new boss Logarusic.

Previously,  Logarusic was in-charge Sudan national team before leaving the position on November 30 following their decision to not renew his contract.
